Who is Oovoo’s Competition?

One of Oovoo’s main competitors is Skype.  Skype is web based service that provides video chat and voice call services.  This service also allows for  users to exchange digital images, texts and videos. Skype was first released in 2003, and as of August 2015, it boast an estimated 300 million active members.  It utilizes the “freemium” model, where much of the services are free, but Skype Credit or a subscription is required to make calls to a landline or mobile number.  This web based service allows users to communicate over Wi-Fi by voice using a microphone, by video using a webcam, and by instant messaging.  Skype is available for Apple smartphones and tablets, Windows smartphones and tablets, Microsoft Windows, Android, and Blackberry.  Unique features on Skype include:

• Conference calls, video chats, and screen sharing for up to 25 people at a time
• Option to call contacts on Skype through Siri voice commands
• Ability to incorporate Mojis into conversations

Since it’s initially release, Skype has continued to evolve and release updates.  There will be a new major release in the coming months for Windows 10.  Because of it’s high quality videos, unique translation and bot capabilities, superior functional capabilities across numerous platforms, Skype continues to be one of Oovoo’s number one competitors.

What is Oovoo?

The app is free and easy to install, which makes it appealing to the children,teens, and college age students.  After initially installing the app, users are sign into or create a new account.  Users have the option to create accounts through social media profiles such as Facebook and Twitter.  Once you are logged in, Oovoo will import your contacts from your device.  Additionally, Oovoo has an advanced friend finder feature that searches Oovoo, Facebook,  Twitter, Gmail, and WhatsApp  to add friends.  The default privacy setting are set to “public”, so that you can interact with people you don’t know, but you can change that option so that you can just interact with your friends.  The app is powered by  cloud-based technology, which supports all platforms including IPhones, IPads, Android mobile phones and tablets, and PCs.
